Stony Brook College’s College of Social Welfare has scored a grant of as much as $1.4 million from New York State to assist people, households, and communities affected by habit.
The college has established a brand new partnership with the state’s Workplace of Habit Companies and Helps (OASAS) to increase and strengthen the addictions-services workforce in New York State. OASAS is funding this initiative by means of the opioid settlement, which identifies enlargement of hurt discount and remedy as high priorities.
This partnership will present scholarship funds that can allow contributors to obtain greatest practices coaching from the College of Social Welfare that can result in Credentialed Alcoholism and Substance Abuse Counselor (CASAC) credentialing by the state’s Workplace of Psychological Well being (OMH) for direct care suppliers within the subject of alcoholism and substance abuse in New York State.
Starting Sept. 1, and thru the following two years, the College of Social Welfare will present the 350-hour CASAC coaching for as much as 200 accepted candidates with varied ranges of coaching and expertise. The CASAC coaching supplied by Stony Brook is designed to construct a powerful workforce of state licensed practitioners who can assist people with substance use issues get the restoration companies they want.

Instrumental in establishing this program from the College of Social Welfare are Melissa Earle, scientific affiliate professor, director of On-line Schooling; Shelley Horwitz, assistant dean, Manhattan Operations, Sawanee Khongsawatwaja, assistant dean of Funds and Finance, and Dean Miller.
